It is known as a genetic disorder and is caused by the presence of a third chromosome. Normally, each cell carries 23 pairs of chromosomes. down syndrome <\/strong>A person's cells carry two 21st pairs of chromosomes instead of three. For this reason, down syndrome is sometimes called \u201ctrisomy 21.\u201d<\/p>

It is characterized by a marked difference in physical properties. Since the cause is a genetic disorder, there is no cure for the disease. However, many options are available for managing symptoms and treating health problems. For example, surgeries may be performed for medical problems such as hearing and vision loss.
