    pediatric orthopedics frequently asked questions

Orthopedics is a medical branch that focuses on problems of bones, joints, muscles, tendons and connective tissue.

Traumatology is a medical branch that deals with treating acute trauma such as injuries and fractures.

Pediatric orthopedics is a branch of medicine that identifies and treats musculoskeletal problems specific to children's growth processes. In this area, various conditions such as arm and leg deformities, gait disorders, fractures, ligament tears, tendonitis, bursitis, bone, joint and muscle infections noticed at birth or later are treated.

Various methods are used in pediatric orthopedic surgery, depending on the age and condition of the children. For example, methods such as growing rods, vertebral body tethering, ApiFix™ and surgical procedures such as spinal fusion can be applied for the treatment of scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and other spinal deformities. These treatments are designed taking into account the growth and development processes of children.

The recovery process after surgery varies depending on the procedure performed and the child's health condition. Often, painkillers are used for pain control after surgery, and physical therapy and rehabilitation may be required for full recovery. Additionally, it is important for the child to slowly increase their activities after surgery and to protect the surgical area.

Pediatric orthopedic surgery is often recommended when less invasive treatments (e.g., splints or physical therapy) are inadequate or require surgical intervention due to the severity of the condition. For example, spinal curvatures greater than a certain degree may require surgical intervention.

Technological advances in the field of pediatric orthopedics make surgical methods safer and more effective. For example, innovations such as robot-assisted spinal fusion, 3D printed modeling, and advanced imaging techniques allow surgeons to perform more precise and faster interventions.
